Outreach and Fellowship Commission

The Commission for Outreach and Fellowship is concerned with Warner Memorial's growth and well being. No new subdivisions are springing up, but there are neighborhood changes. Loyal Nye, our indefatigable letter writer, keeps up with home sales, inviting new residents to join us. There are also letters to absent members letting them know that they are missed.

When visitors sign the friendship pads in the pews each Sunday, first timers are rewarded with a fresh baked loaf of bread delivered to their doorstep, courtesy of Virginia Guest and her faithful little band of bread makers.

So that parents may attend classes and services, we have a qualified caregiver in the nursery each Sunday morning for babies and those too young for Sunday School. She welcomes help because sometimes the nursery is quite full with several needing on-on-one attention at the same time. Child care is also provided for most special events.

Another outreach effort which is in the works, is our plan to have tapes of our eleven o'clock services carried on cable television. The new equipment we recently acquired for video and audio recording is of sufficient quality to serve that purpose. Discussions have been held with the Montgomery County cable channel and current considerations relate to the compatibility of specific parts of our worship service to public television. It is hoped that remaining problems will be resolved so that we can bon on the air next year.

We laughingly joke about how much we eat at Warner, but remember that the early church gathered daily for meals and fellowship. Our wonderful hospitality chairperson, Sue Burns, has gathered a superb crew who put on fantastic Easter and Harvest breakfasts. It is also this commission which organizes the Advent Supper, Church Picnic, and Warner's part in the Kensington Labor Day Parade.

One of the latest activities has been the sponsorship of the Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church site on the World Wide Web. This effort is headed by Mark Eakin.

The Commission is always open to ideas and suggestions for new ways to enhance our outreach program. We are also open to anyone who would like to participate.
