COVID-19 Update

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thess. 5:16-18, New International Version)

Siblings in Christ,

I am trying to think of a time when it was more difficult to “rejoice” and “give thanks” than during these unprecedented days. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, as of March 17 forty-eight States, including Maryland, have declared States of Emergency. In almost all instances, the expiration of those declarations is “TBD.” We just don’t know. That makes everything difficult to sort out and frustratingly uncertain. Challenging as this is, we still are counseled to “rejoice always, pray continually.” (NIV) “Thank God no matter what happens. [Because] This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.” (The Message)

The Warner Session met to discuss Covid-19 matters. Session decided the church building will remain closed until further notice. A very few people have limited access to specific areas in the building. Food and Friends still drops off and picks up, entering through the tower entrance and exiting via the Washington Street doors; Dina picks up and process mail; and, a very few people are authorized to enter the building to count and record donations that come in. Most areas in the building will not be used for a long enough period that any trace of the virus will have died. Before the building reopens those areas will be thoroughly cleaned and areas that have been used will be disinfected. No date is set, but it will most likely be after the State of Emergency is lifted in the DMV. Once that occurs, we will gleefully communicate with you in every way we can.

In the meantime, we still are the Church! As the old song says:

Refrain:

I am the church! You are the church!

We are the church together!

All who follow Jesus, all around the world!

Yes, we're the church together!

The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple,

the church is not a resting place, the church is a people.

Refrain
